Lilo error L 07 Problem

I need help getting a newly installed system to boot. I installed mandrake 10.2 and all went well until i rebooted and got the Lilo error where L 07 07 07... is plastered across the screen. I have looked it up on google and its a "invalid initialization" error whatever that might mean. My setup is as below:
Windows on Hda
Linux is on the second hard drive on the last three partitions the first being FAT32
Lilo was installed on Hda

I also tried GRUB but all that left me with was the word GRUB in the top corner.

Thanks

Boffy

EDIT: after reading some more problems I found it could be due to the linux being on the last 8GB of the second 30GB hard disk. It seems it would be better to have the /boot on HDA which is a windows drive. is there any way i can do this sinc the bios has trouble seeing the second hard disk.
