Unhappy libmeci50 rejected by the preprocessor! - While compiling

I get the error:

./configure: line 7652: syntax error near unexpected token `}'
./configure: line 7652: `LIBS="-libmeci50 rejected by the preprocessor!" >&2;}'
make: *** [config.status] Error 2

....while compiling the lirc-xmms-plugin 1.4 (I really need this thing).

I'm using Slack 9.0 and have just recompiled my kernel, everything else works/compiles correctly but this thing.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

My first guess would be that this is a bug in the ./configure script. Edit the configure script and look for mismatched {} in the vicinity of line 7652.

Solution

The solution is very simple

You have to extract files with that command:
tar -xvjf lirc-xmms-plugin-1.4.tar.bz2

If you try to extract them with the Archiver, you will have corrupt files. The Archiver has some problems with bz2 archives.

Now, you can make the plugin without any problem...
./configure
make
make install
