"Laptop Power Management not available"

I just installed SuSE 8.2 and I get a red X over the battery icon in the system try. If I run the mouse over it, it says "Laptop Power Management not available."

If I right click and click "Configure KLaptop" I get:

Your computer seems to have a partial ACPI installation. ACPI was probably enabled, but some of the sub-options were not - you need to enable at least 'AC Adaptor' and 'Control Method Battery' and then rebuild your kernel.

Help?

Thanks,
Mike

Get a recent kernel, get the patch from
http://acpi.sourceforge.net/ ... try again. :)

If you're lucky someone might have provided
a good DSDT for you particular box. Just a
side-note: MOST current notebooks have a
flakey ACPI implementation, and work around
that in WinDOHS by specialized drivers ...

Cheers,
Tink

If it's an HP pavilion laptop ACPI will work great after you recompile. I am using the 2.5.68 kernel and it is lightning fast on this machine (ze 4230). I didn't bother patching the kernel as the version was high enough to expect ok results from the stock implementation.

WAAAAAAAAAIIIIITTTTTT.

Suse comes with acpi enabled. Just go into Yast2. Click the System tab, click on Runlevel editor, and turn on acpid for runlevel 2 3 5...
Done
