kernel patch help please

Hi everyone.I think I have found out what is going on with my actointec modem. http://www.uwsg.indiana.edu/hypermai...03.1/0286.html and this page http://www.uwsg.indiana.edu/hypermai...04.3/0225.html I think thats what is wrong.I have downloaded the patch. The patch wants to replace the serial.c file. But it is not there.Do I have to dowload the gz kernel from www.kernel.org to apply the patch.I know the ones you download actually puts the drivers on the harddrive.Like that serial.c file.I looked at mandrakes drivers for the kernel, the only thing i saw was a bunch of *.o.gz files. There were no actuall drivers.Everything is done i think with models. The only serail file that i found was a generic_serail.0.gz.But it was in the directory /lib/modules.The patch want to install it in usr/src/linux or something like that.I need to figure out some way to install this patch so that my modem will work.I would appreciate any help.

Thank You,
thunderrooster

sounds like you don't have the complete source for the kernel installed. you can either get it from the mandrake cd or from kernel.org.
