It sounds like it can't read/find the root partition. Are you sure it's /dev/hda1? Also, instead of using mkbootdisk, you can try making the floppy by hand using this:
I face the same problem after following the steps listed in the link u gave.
It gave me the same "Panic" message.
Yeah I'm very much sure that partition is /dev/hda1
I used another boot floppy (from RHL9.0 installed on a desktop and changed the 'root=' path .cfg file in it, to point to /dev/hda1).
This floppy was able to boot my laptop(Sony Vaio) [hda2 worked for Dell Inspiron]
But when i tried to copy these contents to another floppy(extfs formatted), it was not able to boot at all.
I really need to make separate Boot floppies for these systems .
One more info: I tried to do a 'grub-install /dev/hda1' , but on reboot, I get 'GRUB>' prompt and trry to boot using 'boot'. it telle me to load kerne first. How do i do that from this prompt{Hope this cud be my workaround, although boot floppies are a necessity}.
anyways i solved my floppy boot problem in another way.
I used a 3rd party s/w which makes images of floppies. I made images of a working boot floppy of another computer and then changed the partition info in the .cfg file for the other floppies i created.
I did this since i desperately needed separate boot floppies.
I wud luv to know the linux way of solving this issue.
Cud u ar any1 help.
