Hi all,
I never did a kernel compilation before until yesterday and I want to install the kernel 2.6.22 in the RHEL3 having 2.4.21-4.EL.
But every documents I came along as my guide to compile the kernel there was an indication of configs folder but I was unable to find any after untaring the new kernel.
step1:
I downloaded the kernel-2.6.22,copied and untar it in
/usr/src/linux-2.6.22.
step:2
I then Edited the Makefile and added the EXTRAVERSION and saved the file.
step3:
To copy the /usr/src/linux-2.6.22/configs/kernel-...config to /usr/src/linux-2.6.22/.config
But, I didn't find any configs folder in there. Not even in then kernel folder.
There isn't a "configs" directory. You just do a "make menuconfig" (or "make gconfig", etc) in the directory you extracted the source to.
I don't think it's wise to copy your 2.4 config and use that as a base for a 2.6 one, if that's what you're thinking of doing. I'm not sure it would even work :/.
