I finally got KDE 3.2.2 running on my Debian 3.0r2 system, and most everything seems to be working well except the screensavers. I can open the Screen Saver window in the Control Center, and quite a few screensavers load and are visible, but none of them work. If I select one and click Test, nothing happens, and all that happens when the screen saver time has passed is that the screen goes blank, and using the mouse or keyboard brings back the desktop. My newly-exposed-to-Linux brain thinks that I am missing some package, but I have done lots of searching/reading/Googling about this and haven't found a solution. Can someone help me figure this out?
there are quite a few KDE screensavers that require
3D acceleration to work properly...........
if a screensaver has (GL) by it........it won't work
without 3D.

Thanks for the reply...
I am just trying to start the basic, non-GL screensavers, like The Matrix or Star Wars or the Fractals, but none of the screensavers will start. Not sure if that is still a GL issue.
I have the exact same problem, under slackware 9.1 updated to current.
Kernel 2.6.6rc3
xfree86 4.4
KDE 3.2.2
IBM R40 notebook, 16meg m6 radeon, 640megs ram.
As rl5 stated, I see a tonne of screen savers in the control panel, most wont even display the screen saver in the "preview" area. A few will, some being GL, and some non GL. The ones that show in the preview area work when you push test, the ones that don't, won't. I can bring up the "setup" screens for those broken screen savers and adjust their settings, but they just won't launch or work. It's very strange.
I'm running Vector with KDE 3.2. Having the EXACT same prob with the screensavers... gah! the frustration, lol. Anyone have any ideas? Installed MESA didn't help at all.
I was having this problem (see last reply), but I figured out a solution that worked for me. All you have to do is install xscreensaver. I had the list of ss and everything, but they wren't working. When I installed xscreensaver, everything works great with the exception of a few random ssavers.
