I noticed that there are a bunch of screensavers in /usr/X11R6/lib/xscreensaver. Is there a way to use these in KDE? I found all the KDE screensavers in /usr/bin and they all have the .kss extention. I tried to trick KDE by moving a file from /usr/X11R6/lib/xscreensaver to /usr/bin and giving it the .kss extention. That didn't work and I'm not surprised. Please help!
I really want to use the starwars screensaver. Its cool!
They are from a program called xscreensaver, which has many good screensavers. Just disable the kde screensaver, and start xscreensaver at boot. I don't know how to start it at boot unfortunately. If anyone does, I posted the question in newbie questions.
Okay. I don't know how to disable kde screensaver and enable xscreensaver. This is really trivial but I want to use the starwars screensaver so the force is with me. I don't understand why KDE does not allow you to use the xscreensavers.
I use KDE, and Gnome has some really cool screen savers. I was wondering the same thing, except getting Gnome screen savers to work with KDE. I hope they use the same format...
ok I found out how to do it. go to your /home/user/.kde directory and look for the auto start folder. In that folder right click and choose: new -> link to application. name it xscreensaver or whatever you want. then go to the execute tab and under command: write xscreensaver. easy as that. when you restart you will see that the xscreen saver logo will flash briefly whenever KDE boots up. its done!
Don't feel rejected Fingel. I just don't understand some things. Like how do you pick what screensaver you want to use? Do you run xscreensaver first and pick your screensaver and THEN add it to Autostart? Also I'm not sure where you specify how long until the screensaver kicks in. When I go into the xscreensaver settings the two options in minutes say they determine when the screen goes black not when the screensaver starts. Zuh? I'm still a noob to this one.
