Lightbulb Ircd + P2p

I just had a wild idea. What if we took the way P2P networks like Donkey, etc, work and did the same with IRC servers. Yes I know we all ready have a tone of IRC networks. But what I'm thinking is we all run our own little server on our own system and they all connect to each other the same way mldonkey works. Then we use our IRC client and connect to localhost.

Right now I'm running ircd-2.10.3p7-3.i586 on SUSE 9.3 if any one wants to give this idea a try let me know and we can get working on a ircd.conf file. This should be able to work on any distro with almost any IRCD. Any ideas are more then welcome.
