Installing Linux with SATA harddrive

I'm looking to install a version of Linux on an antique desktop. I was wondering if the os install came with generic drivers for the controller or if I had to find them and install manually? Any ideas? Thanks.

SATA (serial ATA) is not antique. Did you mean PATA (parallel ATA)?

Linux (RHEL, Fedora or any other common distribution) includes generic drivers for the full range of IDE hard drives including all SATA and PATA.

You do not need to find or install the drivers.

Please define antique. Post the specifications or the make / model of the computer.

As stated you should not need to manually install drivers.
