I am trying to get Java working on Mandrake 9.1. I have installed the script file from Sun, j2re1.4.1_02 - as root in /usr/java (I think I installed it right <gr>). I still don't have any java in Mozilla, which is ,of course where I need it most. But I would also like to run Xnap and it doesn't work either. I get the error message "xnap.jar could not be found.
I'd do a search for java plugin on this site. There are about a million threads on this subject.
As for the 'xnap.jar could not be found', that doesn't sound like a java issue. It sounds like the Xnap program can not find its file. I'm not sure though because I've never heard of this Xnap application.
I had a similiar problem where I successfully installed java but I couldn't access it at all. The problem was there is an additional step not mentioned in the "sun" directions. You need to put links to the java executables in your usr/bin directory. This is the page that helped me out (although I only used the very bottom part of the tutorial) http://digilander.libero.it/winehqitalia/javaguide.html
Hope this helps. Take care.

Go to http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/javalinux.html,follow the instructions and you should get mozillza and galeon working. As for Konqueror go to Settings>Configure Konqueror>Enable Java Globally>Java & Java Script>Path to Java Excecutable>Open file dialogue (my file looks like this
/usr/java/j2re1.4.1_02/bin/java).

You can do that, or you can just add /usr/java/bin to the PATH variable.
