This might sound a really daft question to some of you but I'm still relatively new to this Linux game and don't want to much up my existing system. I have RedHat 7.3 with the KDE 3.0 desktop installed and during installation I did not select Gnome as I much prefer the KDE environment. However, I understand that you can run Gnome applications from KDE and I would like to run the Evolution E-mail client and gnucash. I think I'm right in saying that I need to install Gnome to allow me to run those applications. How do I install Gnome at a later date? Is it just a case of installing the Gnome rpm(s) from the distro installations CD's? Or is it more complex than that? Thanks in advance and sorry if I sound a bit dumb. There is a genuine reason for that - working with Windows NT/2000 for the past 4 years! Aaargh!!!
Basically like annehoog said, you can install Gnome, and its dependencies by using the rpms on the CD.
I am not sure about this, but I am not sure if you need Gnome to run Evolution E-Mail client, and Gnucash. I believe that you only need to install Gtk, and its dependencies to be able to use those applications. I am not sure about this, and I hope someone can correct me if I am wrong.
I once read something about wether or not evolution needs gnome, can't remember where though.
You could google for it, b/c I'm sure this issue has been discussed somwhere.
