Installing firewall/gateway into linksys router to protect Windows?

OK

story is my brother is a dindows lover (gamer)
and hes been gettin attacked by virus's,etc cause he runs his Vista
setup with no firewall or antivirus

He says the firewall, etc slows down the PC too much for gaming
He doesnt want to use Linux as his games wont play on Linux as on dindows

He wants to know if you can install a Linux firewall/gateway or whatever
into his Linksys WRT54GC router and thus protect his PC without using a firewall or av in it.

Is that possible?
if so what distro does this?

thanks

EDIT: precisely; he has a Linksys wireless-G connected to a always-on Verizon Westel 6100G modem
so its a wired connection, not wireless

#1 if he's going to do that then he should be running a lmited user account with UAC enabled
#2 if his machine is so underpowered that it cant handle running AVG or Avast in the background then he shouldnt be using it for games.
#3 Unfortunately dd-wrt do not currently plan to support this router but they would be your best bet if any

2) His machine has 2GB RAM and is a Dell something; he says the av's constantly interfere in gaming, etc

Doesn't the router have a firewall?
Perhaps you can look at the website for a manual.

http://portforward.com/english/route...GC/default.htm
However, I don't think a firewall will block viruses or malware etc.
If the user clicks on every link, mail, without thinking, he will be infected.
A linux firewall or any firewall for that matter will not change that.

If he realy wants a firewall, you can:
Use the firewall and portblocking from the router
or install an old computer with linux and 2 networkcards between the router and the internal network.

all the previous comments are correct, UAC is User Account Control and works similarly to gksudo in linux in that it asks for the admin password when a program needs admin rights
