Installing and firefox 3.5 instead of 3.6

I am having issues with version 3.6 and using vmware server. I was told to install 3.5 but everytime I remove 3.6 and attempt to reinstall 3.5, ubuntu lucid simple installs 3.6. How can one install a previous version of a program without having apt-get install the newest version

You can go to the projects website and download it. There's always that way to install it. If you do it that way you may have to compile it from the source, but that's not hard. If you need help just post and either I or someone here will be more than happy to give you a hand

Mr. Majestic's response is correct in general.

For Firefox you go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
You download whichever one you want based upon your language preference, you unpack it, you run it.
Code:
$ tar jxvf firefox-3.5.11.tar.bz2
gives you a directory called firefox which contains, well, Firefox. Run with

Code:
$ firefox/firefox
or if you want to be a bit fancy and assuming you want the the US version you can do this which doesn't leave the firefox-3.5.11.tar.bz2 lying around.

Code:
$ curl -L "http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-3.5.11&os=linux&lang=en-US" | tar jxf -
$ firefox/firefox
Note that last time I looked, Mozilla are dropping support for 3.5.X in August. Doesn't say when in August.
