installing a source rpm


how do you compile, or extract or install a *.src.rpm file? i know how to compile things, ive jsut never had the need to use a src rpm before

you can do it several ways, first you need to build it, then install it.

If you just want to get it installed then I would do it like this..

build it.

rpmbuild --rebuild packagename.src.rpm

Then you need to install it

rpm -iv /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/{arch}/packagename.rpm

The arch can be supplied for some source rpms but not all.

If you have an i686 and want to build an rpm for it then try this ..

rpmbuild --rebuild --target=i686 packagename.src.rpm



look at man rpmbuild

If you installed the Documentation CD then look at "Maximum RPM" in the menu under Documentation
