installation error


Iam getting an error message
"no primary available"
when iam creating "/boot" partition while installing red hat linux 6.1.

Whats the problem and how it can be solved ?.

Why are you installing 6.1? That is severly outdated by 5 years now. I would suggest obtaining a later version unless there is good reason your installing something that old.

And most likely its saying "no primary" as you trying to install to a logical drive instead of a primary for your /boot, etc.

I just have that version at home so i started with it just for the sake of practicing installation and i have no intension of working in such an older version.

tell me which version is better for a beginner 7.2 or 9.0, i have 6gb of free space available how much space 9.0 takes i have heard its pretty huge.

Can u explain further at the primary partition problem?i have 40gb hd, a 5gb primary partition and and 29gb of extended dos partition and windows is installed on primary partition.i was trying to install linux on 6gb free space.how can i solve that problem?

I would say 9.0. The packages are more recent as are the drivers available.
