increasing retry timeout with mgetty/sendfax?

Just wondering if there was a configuration option for mgetty that would increase the time between retries for sending an outgoing fax. At the moment I am using 5 re-tries but they happen one after the other without a delay and hence the fax never gets sent if the receiving fax happens to be busy at the time.

I am running Debian Unstable using mgetty and mgetty-fax version 1.1.31-1. Here is a copy of my 2 configuration files
# sendfax configuration file
# ----- global section -----
verbose n
debug 5
fax-devices faxmodem
fax-id +61-8-94318022
max-tries 5
max-tries-continue y

# ----- port specific section -----
port faxmodem
modem-init ATM0

# mgetty configuration file
# ----- global section -----
debug 4
fax-id 94318022
speed 38400
issue-file /etc/issue.mgetty
port faxmodem
speed 19200
debug 3
init-chat "" AT OK ATS0=0&S1 OK
fax-only y

Any help is greatly appreciated
