IBM 4019+Postscript card: Which ppd?
On this Slackware 9.1 box w/ CUPS I have an IBM 4019 printer, _with postscript card installed_, attached to the parallel port. The linuxprinting.org site was not as much help as I'd hoped, they say "get a postscript printer" but I didn't see anything there that said what you were supposed to do when you got one!
For this particular printer they seem to recommend a "laserjet" ppd file, which appears to be one of the several emulations possible with this printer, but since I've got that PS card in there why not use it?
I've tried several, also tried several with different emulations (accessed by holding down different buttons on the printer when you power it up), and none of them work properly. One of two things seems to happen:
- either I get much flashing of the "buffer" light on the printer, telling me that data is being transferred, and then nothing happens, or
- I get pages of gibberish, often as much as six pages of it for a single page of output.
The hardware seems to be working, this has to be some sort of a configuration issue, or a ppd "driver" issue...
I'd also like to know what I need to do to access this printer from other machines on the LAN here, once I do get it working.
