How to write Cyrillic scripts on Linux

Does anybody know how to write Cyrillic scripts on Linux?

I am studying Russian nowadays. I badly need a program or some other solution to write Russian scripts.

Your help is appreciated.

openoffice (ru branch) or latex

I see that there is an openoffice package with better Russian support:

http://openoffice.ru/
Also, you could use LaTeX with a nice graphical front end (something like TeXmacs or LyX). Latex supports just about every font. Hope this helps

Are you using KDE, Gnome, or another (if any Desktop)? If you use KDE, you can add Russian in the KDE keyboard layout configuration dialog. If you enable the Show Indicator option, you could simply click on the indicator to switch back and forth. This would allow you to use vim in konsole and may be the easiest way of doing things, and would work in Kate as well. Понимайте?

Where do you find the 'keyboard layout'. I am using KDE as the others.
