is it possible to uninstal linux on my hard drive without hurting y current windows xp instalation, and getting rid of the grub boot loader and replacing it with the original??
any help or links to guids/old posts/sites would be great
yes. use either fdisk or some other partition manager to just delete your linux partitions. then if you're using win9X/ME use a boot floppy and use the command:
fdisk /mbr
maybe 2k and NT work the same above. not sure. gonna have to google that.
if using xp, use your install cd and enter recovery console to fix windows there.
somewhere in there... http://www.uninets.net/~blaisdel/whistler3.htm
Try this go to Computer Management ... (Right click on My computer and then manage) ... Now go to the Disk Management. You will be able to see the Linux Partitions listed as unknown partitions. Go ahead and delete those partitions. Now restart your computer with your Windows XP CD in ur disk drive. Go to the recovery console. It will ask you for the administrator passwd. Put that in. Now type fixmbr . That will overwrite ur MBR. Hope this helps. You dont need any disks in this case. Cheers

there is know Computer managment in my windows xp, i have the home edition, but i have partition magic, so wich partitions do i delete on partition magic?
well i deleted the partitions and i did fixmbr, on the recovery part of the cd, and now when i try and start windows it just is a black screen with a blinking curser i can not type with
Ouch, so fixmbr didn't work when you ran it from your XP CD? As in did boot from your CD and go to recovery console and type fixmbr. Anyway if that didnt work for you then go ahead and boot from ur XP cd again. This time go ahead and run the setup and proceed to installation of XP. It will detect your present windows installation. There will be an option to repair this installation. GO ahead and try that.
