How to run the apache

I downloaded the following apache tarball and installed it successfully.
apache_1.3.33.tar.gz
Please read the following message which I received at the end of the successful installation.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You now have successfully built and installed the |
| Apache 1.3 HTTP server. To verify that Apache actually |
| works correctly you now should first check the |
| (initially created or preserved) configuration files |
| |
| /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf
| |
| and then you should be able to immediately fire up |
| Apache the first time by running: |
| |
| /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start
| |
| Thanks for using Apache. The Apache Group |
| http://www.apache.org/

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following show the configuration was correctly in place.

[root@c83-250-94-128 apache]# cd conf
[root@c83-250-94-128 conf]# ls
access.conf httpd.conf magic mime.types srm.conf
access.conf.default httpd.conf.default magic.default mime.types.default srm.conf.default
[root@c83-250-94-128 conf]#

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following didn't work

[root@c83-250-94-128 bin]# apachectl start
bash: apachectl: command not found
-----------------------------------------------------

Then I wrote the following and it worked.
[root@c83-250-94-128 bin]# ./apachectl start
./apachectl start: httpd started
[root@c83-250-94-128 bin]#

How do I run the program? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Then I wrote the following and it worked.
[root@c83-250-94-128 bin]# ./apachectl start
./apachectl start: httpd started

This means the apache server is up and running.
locate the httpd.conf file and adjust it after your needs.
after that place your website in htdocs and fire up your new http server

When I start my computer, how do I run the program? What is the command to start the program?

Do I have to go to the root everytime to start the program?

I urge somone to answer my question. I am a beginner.

I restarted the computer and wrote the following on the console:

./apachectl start
No response. Please read the following:

[ka@c83-250-94-181ka]$ ./apachectl start
bash: ./apachectl: No such file or directory
[ka@c83-250-94-181 ka]$

you have to be a root to start the service, go to the proper directory where the apachectl is and run it by ./apachectl start.

After you start it open a browser and type http://localhost to verify if apache is working and it should say apache started succesfully. Then you can put your website files in htdocs. You even have to change the httpd.conf file and every time you change it restart the httpd service.
