How to read hard disk temperature ?

I need to look up my hd temperature, i run debian with kernel 2.6.10...

The 2 hd's I use are 2 sata 150 maxtors, on the maxtor site you can dowload some software and then read temperature and other stuff about the disk

Anyone has an idea if this kind of soft is avail. for linux ?

I use hdparm but I cant check it with that...

neat hdd temp smart tool

I found a nice tool

but there are some problems for sata, cause sata is recognized in my 2.6.10 kernel as /dev/sda scsi...

and the drivers in kernel 2.6.10 do not support S.M.A.R.T ... I could use the libata, but there is a possibility this would cause problems with my onboard ich6 intel ...

I'll try it anyway, if I can get my sata drives to be recognized as /dev/hdx then it should work, works fine with my ATA btw !

thx a lot
