How To Load Applications From CD-Rom
Hi All ! I'm yet another newbie to the Linux camp. So I too am filled with questions. However, I will try to ask these questions as clearly as I can. So here goes....
Question #1. As any former Windows user will know, it's fairly easy to load applications
from CD-Rom in almost all versions of Windows. It's pretty much a no
brainer.
So with all that in mind, my first question is this : How ( or can you ) load
Linux compatible applications from CD-Rom ?
Just an FYI : I'm running Mandrake 9.2.
Question #2. As I have recently migrated to Mandrake from Red Hat, I guess this could
be regarded as a feature comparison type of question. Red Hat 9, has a
feature called X Hardware Browser. Basically, what it does is create a
list of the kinds of hardware devices that are installed in your machine
in the left hand column. When you click on a device type, the empty
window on the right will populate with specific details about the device
type you clicked on. Which leads me to my question. Does Mandrake 9.2
have the same ( or a similar ) feature ?
Question #3. I don't have any idea if you will know the answer to this one or not. If you
don't, it's no biggie. But, just out of general curiosity, what is the scoop on
the Linux DVD software decoder so we Linux users can watch movies on
our computers too ? When it comes to this situation, I for one am a little tired
of being left out in the cold just because some huge multinational is
paranoid that they will loose a little money on their idea. I could rant and
rave about this but I won't.........
