How to know OS name from its source?

Hi,

I have 3 OS on my PC. FC4, FC5, Suse..
I have booted in FC4. I can do fdisk -l and see on which partition all other OS lies. Now I can mount them also.

So, I can see the source. But, from that how can I know that whether it is for FC% or Suse... I mean there must be some string stored and specifying OS name and version.
Where is this?

Seeking for help,
Ur help is more than welcome.

Thanks,

check /etc/issue. also fedora uses /etc/fedora-release, i think suse uses /etc/suse-release or somethign similar.

#1. Do you know what "source" is?

#2. If you do, please tell me where you see this "source" of FC4/5/SuSE.
