How to kill a certain process?
How can I kill a certain process running on my RH8 box?

run top as root, enter 'k' and enter the pid that you want to kill

If the process is yours, you can use either kill (ie kill -signal PID) or pkill (ie pkill -signal pname). Try to send as nice a signal as possible. Some people like to jump right to -9, but this may not be appropriate in all circumstances. If the process is not yours, you will need to get proper access via su or sudo.

if you are running a process from console or terminal you can obtain the list of PID by typing:
jobs -l
or if you are using kde u can kill an running application by pressing
Ctrl + Alt + Esc
a skull is gonna appear instead of the normal cursor, just click on top of the application you want to kill. A rude way but thats the only way i found to kill apps (im sure there must be a better way, i just dont know how, lol)
