How to install rpms files in fedora3

I am new to Linux and i would like to know how to install rpms files in fedora, every time I click on a rpms file it opens open a window and in that that window it ask me where to extract the file . I then tell where, then it installs but i never se the programs on the menus.

Example i am trying to install real player for linux, it says it install but I cannot see it anywhere in the menus, do I have to manually find the executable file then bring it back to the main menu?

You have to open a console a execute:

$rpm -i package_name.rpm

Usually you have to do that as root.

Before that, you read better man page for rpm:

$man rpm

and view all the rmp options.

"rpm -Uvh" is usually better than "rpm -i", because the latter won't allow you to install/upgrade a package if a package with the same name already exists.
