how to convert wordpad(rtf) doc to linux text file?

I wrote something in rtf format in windows and when i try to edit it in Linux i see (meta)tags in it. I used "dos2unix -o filename", "dos2unix -c ascii -o filename", but i found no improvement. Ideas?

Open it in an RTF-supporting text editor, such as OpenOffice then save it in .txt format?

You can also use
http://freshmeat.net/projects/rtf2htm/ then pipe the result in a text browser (w3m, lynx,..) using a dump option.

You should also manage using
"antiword"
