how to check system memory?


how do I check the system memory? how do i know how many MB do i have for RAM through command line?

found it myself,

in case anyone likes to know:

grep MemTotal \proc\meminfo

Try issuing the command top at the command line.

[edit] This will show you pretty-much real-time info about which processes are using RAM, how much total you have, how much free you have, total swap, free swap, etc etc etc.

'free' is also another command you can use. But yes, I usually just cat /proc/meminfo.
