how to add a process start during the system boot

Dear EXperts,
Iam a newbie to linux. Iw ould like to know how to make a process start during the system boot.I use Fc6.i tried to add the process to the start up using the command "chkconfig --add mysql", but i get an error "error reading information on service mysql: No such file or directory" .. how do i proceed?..

The service name is mysqld and it should be added automatically if you install the mysql-server package
