Many companies that sell AntiVirus software for Windows like to charge for updates to the virus database.
Of course, you can get AVG for free, and it works just fine.
You don't have to buy anti spyware programs either. It's recommendable, to support the company, but you can get adaware, or spybot for free. I think you can find free dvd viewing programs for windows. A lot of times they'll come packaged with the burner. ZoneAlarm is a nice free firewall as well. So you don't really need to buy any of that stuff up there, aside from Windows itself, which will set you back about $80(for the freakin' home edition).
I understand, though, that the question was how much it costs after all that. It really boils down to what you want to do. Basically, almost all of the good software for Windows costs the big bucks.. Photoshop, 3D Studio Max, that retarded Microsoft Office suite(I wouldn't use it unless I absolutely HAD to), and whatever it costs to upgrade these programs.
So in total, it ranges from a good bit of money, to a whole freakin' lot of money. You're better off with Linux.
