Question How do you change the resolution for your text screen ?

In KDE my resolution is at 1024x768 and h sync=68.6khz, v sync=84.9hz.
However on my text screen (IE <ctrl + F2> to a bash prompt), the resolution is 1024x768, but the h sync=48.3khz and h sync=59.9hz.

What I want the text screen to have is a 800x600 and h sync=68.6khz, v sync=84.9hz.

How do I accomplish this ? I have not been able to find any posts addressing this specific issue.

JC

You can modify LILO to boot Linux in different screen modes (not exactly the same as resolution), but I don't remember exactly how it's done. Has to do with modifying a line in lilo.conf.

A quick Google search turned this up -- it may be more helpful than what I know: http://www.talug.org/howto/console-mini-howto.html

Once again, thanks. That did the trick, altough I had to take into account that I don't use LILO, I use grub. But it was no big deal. The config file that needs to be altered in the case of Grub is 'menu.lst' . For my distro (Suse 8.1) it was found in '/boot/grub/'.

I found where it said VGA=791 and I changed 791 to normal. I'm happy with that look, but you could also change it to VGA=ask and when you boot, it will show you your options as far as screen mode. Cool stuff.
