how do I restart my desktop panel without the K menu?

Either I did something to accidentally shut down the panel on the desktop, or it crashed, I'm not sure which. Without a K menu, I'm not sure how to start it up again. Without closing the session and starting another, that is. I'm busy downloading something, so I'd rather not quit.

Oops. I forgot that the desktop right-click menu has a run command. Sorry. I just answered my own question. The mods may want to close this.

On my personal install, I actually assign the right mouse button to KMenu in Control Center. I like as little clutter as possible on my desktop (complete with hidden taskbar); I never thought about it before but that could be a way to prevent having to deal with the situation you mentioned again.

If you have access to a terminal, the command is kicker in KDE3, plasma in KDE4. Not sure about the latter, anyway. You can also press Alt-F2 and launch the commands from the pop-up dialog.

Yes, "kicker" was what I typed in the run box, once I remembered that it wasn't "kpanel." Thanks for the Alt-F2 tip, although I think I'll change it to Win+R.
