Exclamation How do I create a live iso of my system?

Hey, all! I am not sure where to post my question, but I hope that "general" is the appropriate area for me to seek help. I have been building my own operating system, which began as my third (or fourth) time using the LFS book, but has since become a passion project of mine. I want to share my work with others, but I can't find a way to do so.

I tried Linux Live Kit scripts, but they made a file that fails to be written to a USB drive. I tried CloneZilla, but it always fails. Some attempts result in CZ going to a black screen, others result in a generic "failure to create clone" error.

I am getting really upset with how none of the options I have seen have been able to work. I thought that my OS was to blame (which may very well eb the case), but it manages to run perfectly, and I have had no issue recompiling my kernel, updating the firmware, compiling and installing a ton of stuff, updating packages, etc.

I am looking for anybody who can provide me with a guide on how to create a copy of my existing system, which can be booted into, or is at least my complete system without a bootloader already installed. PLEASE do not just send me the generic "go to the clonezilla site and read the instructions". Such a response would be entirely unhelpful, and a waste of both of our time.

Anyway, thanks everybody. You guys rock.

Hello and welcome to LQ.

Odd, Clonezilla is generally a good backup.

First I have to say that .iso refers to a type of file. We usually use that file as a copy of an optical disc.

What you want seems to be backup plan.
You want to backup entire disk.

There may be 50 ways to do that.

If we knew the disto you had that may offer some clues. Some issues like full disk encryption may affect this.

Anyway. Almost any live media can boot to a system. That live media always has a command line program called dd.

LQ has a huge thread on it.

dd is dangerous if you don't read the how to's.

I'd suggest you figure out why clonezilla failed.

Or try more ideas. https://www.maketecheasier.com/back-...d-drive-linux/

All of those ought to be run from a live media. You can't easily backup from a running system.
