How do I build a 64-bit kernel?
I have Fedora 8 installed from a magazine's DVD, and built a kernel from 2.6.24 source downloaded from a kernel mirror. I got a 32-bit i686 kernel.
I am trying to build a 64-bit kernel from that source with no luck.
make xconfig does not appear to offer x86_64 as an option for processor type. .config has the following lines:
# CONFIG_64BIT is not set
CONFIG_X86_32=y
# CONFIG_X86_64 is not set
CONFIG_X86=y
If I try to change them manually they get changed back when I run make.
How do I build a kernel for x86_64?
The processor is an AMD Athlon 4600+
TIA
Jim
