I'm not familiar with Red Hat Fedora, and most of the hard ware I bought isnt compatible unfortunetly. I would like to install Windows 98(can not install Windows XP, system can't run it), but do not know how to do it with this operating system.
Also should mention that I'm not that familiar with computer jargin in general, know enough to keep myself from crashing my system,. but use lamens terms when possible please.
1) Make sure you have disk space on the first partition on the first hard drive
2) Make that drive is formatted in fat32 (you can do this by downloading a disk/using the windows 98 floppy)
3) Get/use a boot floppy and boot with it
4) After boot disk is loaded cd (change directory) to your CD rom drive that should have the 98 disk in it
5) When you get to said directory run setup
6) Remove floppy and follow instructions
You can get boot disks from bootdisks.com. Sometimes you can boot from the 98 CD, I have had no luck with mine tho.
Ok, I feel dumb for asking this, but how do I make sure it's formated in fat32? If it were windows, I'd know, but with Fedora...... And I cant boot from the disk, lol, tried that first.
Oh, and how do I make a partition and such with Fedora? I feel so silly asking this, since I have a feeling it'll be really simple.
Is this a Linux question (if so, how (dual boot?))
Normally, insert CD and start from CD (you might have to change BIOS settings to start from CD).
W98 also comes with bootflop (in case your PC can not boot from CD). In that case, change BIOS to boot from floppy first.
Please describe your hardware so we might be able to help you to get FC (or another distro) running.
WEll, my hardware(I'm assuming you mean PC) was brand new in 1999, and it has a 128kb RAM and that's about as specific as I can get, dont know much more about it.
Not trying to run dual boot, dont think this pc can handle that, if it could I probably would. I didnt know WHERE to post this, sorry about that.
With Red Hat Fedora, I cant get anything to run from my CD-Rom, it reads it, I can view files, but I cant get anything to run. All it will do is say "run in Terminal" or "Run" or "cancel" I've tried all 3, but nothing happens.
I wish I could be more specific, but don't know how, oh, and how would I change BIOS? A REAL computer Newbie here, sorry.
