Here's one fer yuh'all, specially all you Slackers.

I am a tad perplexed about something. Specifically the console sleep timeout. The file /etc/rc.d/rc.M contains the line to control this. setterm -blank 15 <--The install default of 15 mins. Problem is I still timeout (sleep)...D'oh! It's bypassing the fact that I commented the line out. Any suggestions would be neato....Danke!

I reserve the right to say "...I knew that!" depending on the ease of the fix.

tested my slackware machine, it doesn't make the change as mine will go into sleep after 15 minutes with the line commented out... hmmmm..

Surely you ought to be seeking the advice of a doctor if you're having problems with your sleep pattern.

Trickykid: If you find something let me know...I don't think the doc will know much! haha...I don't know why there would be another file, but maybe there is. Who knows...Hey Aussie! Where yuh is? Don't suppose you have ever tried this?

Weird... is -blank 15 the default value called by setterm when the virtual terms are init'd?

I found something in apmd that will call it after 15 min by default, but my Slack 8 box is behaving the same with the line commented out and doesn't have apmd running. I thought I had it for a minute. Damn.

Change the line to read -blank 0 and according to the man page it will never blank the screen, although in order to figure out what's doing it, it would be best to reset it in rc.local and then wait to see if it does it again, then at least we'll know its a daemon and not an init script or the default of setterm.

Cheers,

Finegan

There's an idear. Will try that. I was thinking APM too but I didn't even build it into my kernel or as a module so that daemon isn't even running. Just sort of a strange thing. But i'll set to 0 and tinker until i finger out what dasterdly presence is doing this. Or it's a bug. Nahhhh, couldn't be!?!?

Mine is still set to the 15min default as well, I've never bothered changing it because if I'm in the console I'm usually banging away at the KB at the same time. I'll have a dig into it as well.
PS: Have a look in your bios for a power management setting for your moniter that might be set.

I would look into that, but i'm actually anti-APM LOL I have anything and everything disabled from the BIOS to Windows to Linux (so I thought) So I'm still searching...I wish I wasn't so obsessive, then it wouldn't matter....Haha...
