Help with RealPlayerG2

When I run RealPlayerG2 I get an error message telling me that it cannot run properly because all of the componets are not installed. How do I know what needs to be installed. It was installed during initial installation.

When you say run the installer, are you referring to the package installer. If not this is another problem I have. I am not sure how to install items after they are 'installed by the package manager.

If you downloaded a realplayer rpm then uninstall it and get the .tar.gz package, open it and run the installer.

This is frustrating. How do I get to the .tar.gz and just where is the installer? As you can see I am totally new at this.

a tar.gz file, you will install by first unpacking it with the command tar -xzvf ./filename-of-realplayer.tar.gz, then from there it will create a new directory called exactley what you downloaded and inside that directory should be install and readme files. in those you should find what other components you need to install realplayer for linux. if you look on realplayers site, they might also have a help section telling you what you need to install or have as well.

Just a note...

I have Realplayer 8 installed on my computer, and it works fine. I got it from http://www.real.com

It is a RPM package, so it should install on Mandrake and Red Hat systems easily. It does need admin, err I mean /root rights to install and run, so you should not have any problems with it.

I would recommend reinstalling or grabbing the Realplayer 8 and try installing that. Maybe the G2 is not bug free yet.

tar -xzvf realplayer.tar.gz
The "./" is only used when you want to run something in the current directory...like the installer after you've extracted it.

I have re installed Realplayer but still faced with the same problem. When I attempt to play a video the error message tells me that it cannot because there are missing componets. Does Linux systems actually play video?

Go to the directory where the realplayer binary is and do 'ldd realplayer" that will tell you is there are any missing libs.
