Help with Evolution mail setup
Hi All
I have been led here by searching on the web, and I don't know if this is the correct forum for help with Evolution mail, although I might have read somewhere that Evolution is part of Linux?
I have just installed Evolution mail and followed the instructions and the program sort of installed imap by default & I was not asked for a password, I tried sending a test mail to my sky account (can this account be incorporated into Evo as it is in Thunderbird) and I got the message "Error sending message failed to connect to the smtp server" my problem is I cannot find a settings button in order to go back and try to reset the details etc, and the dashboard text is so small for my poor eyesight, I wonder if that can be improved so If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be grateful regards Robert
Open Evolution to the mail window. In the left pane, find the entry for the mail account you setup. Right click on that line, then select "properties."
That will pop up the account editor window. In that window's left pane you'll see a selection for "sending mail". CLick on that and you'll be able to enter the configuration information for the SMTP (send mail) server.

Hi Capt, thanks for the quick reply, I did expand the line "On this computer" then >Roberts Mail the menu opens but only "New Folder and Disable are available, the rest including properties are greyed out.
I am sorry I have timed this badly because I am going into hospital today for some surgery and will be off line for today and probably tomorrow as well, but I do want to get Evolution working so I'll be back as quick as I can, best regards Robert
Good luck with the surgery. Hope the docs can do what they need and your convelensence is short.
In the Evolution mail window, in the left pane, there should be an entry for your mail provider's server at the same level as "On this computer." That's the entry to need to open the properties then etc...
If you don't have an entry for the provider's server, it means it wasn't properly set up the first time you ran Evolution. In that case, with the mail window open, click on "new" in the menu bar and select "mail account" and then follow the prompts. If you need help, let us know.

Hi again, I am out of H and ready to try again, I am not sure what you mean by provider so presume you mean my isp broadband provider which is Sky, I also have two gmail addresses which I would also like to use, I could find nothing in the "on this computer" column referring to my isp or google, just the inbox and associated Evolution folders and when I opened the "new" menu there was no "mail account" listed, I think you are right that I have made a cockup of installing the program, perhaps I should try again? I did find it odd that it did not ask for imap or pop selection or enter any port numbers on setup, regards Robert

Hi all, here is an update
The problem with my Thunderbird mail has been sorted so for the moment I will stick with that and keep Evolution in mind should things go awry again, thanks for your input regards Robert.
