HELP! What is GRUB?
What is grub and why is it on my computer? I have tried to install a few linux OS's on a hard drive on this old computer and the first one worked, but after erasing that one and installing another one and rebooting the computer somthing called GRUB kept running instead of the OS. After i switched the HDD to a new one I tried to install UBUTU (did i spell it right? i dont think so..) server edition i got it again and this time it said Error 15 or somthing like that. please help me.
Have a look at the man page boot (man boot) it'll explain far better than me what a bootloader is and what it goes or have a look at wikipedia.
Seems a bit strange that when you installed ubuntu it didn't install a new version of grub over the top of the old one in the master boot record.
Try hitting c when grub comes up, it might get you into the grub terminal. If it does try help to see what commands are available you may be able to boot into ubuntu from the grub terminal.

18 : "Invalid or unsupported executable format"
This error is returned if the kernel image boing loaded is not recognized as Multiboot or one of the supported native formats (Linux zImage or bzImage, FreeBSD, or NetBSD).

how do i fix this?
Those fancy words most likely mean that grub is simply not able to find a bootable kernel.
We will need to know the current configuration of the machine--how many and what kind of drives, what is installed, partitions, etc.
If you have the Ubuntu live CD version, you can boot from that, open a terminal and enter "fdisk -l" Post the output here.
