Hi. i made a icon for gaim on the desktop by doing ln -s /usr/bin/gaim /home/user/desktop. There appears to be a little pencil in a red no sign in the bottom right corner of the icon. Im not sure what it means (guessing no write access or something like that) and would like to get rid of it if possible. Also i don't like the little green arrow ontop, could i get rid of that by making a hard link? Also in the properties > permission tab it says the owner is root but ln -l says im the owner. (of both the link and of /usr/bin/gaim) Im curious why the difference? im using gnome/fc2. thanks in advanced.

Gnome doesn't use symbolic links on it's desktop, it uses .desktop files which contain a bit of info about the file and the icon etc as well. Just right click and there's an option to create a new one there, it's like create launcher or create shortcut or something
