headless, keyless box control via eth0


oh God, this is a wild one.

I hesitated before posting, but then I reckoned that this is a common situ:

You have a 2nd computer with no monitor keyboard or mouse attached.

It does have an ethernet card and you connect it to your main computer (which does have *all* peripherals) with no problems.

How can you use your second box through the peripherals on your main one?

When I mean use I mean use Xwindows, so that the main computer is transparent.

Sorry if I haven't expressed this properly, but I've started to try this (looking up telnet/ssh via eth0 right now) but also thought I'd poll for people who have done this already on redoutable LQ.

IF I don't make sense, ignore me!

If you want it to be completely transparent and do all of the proccessing on the headless box then take a look at the Linux Terminal Server Project:

If you want to run applications locally as well then I would just start another X server on the client PC then start the window manager on the remote PC and display it on your local X server. You could do this with X windows over ssh:
