GRUB error21

Ok, heres the deal, I want to install Debian on an 250GB HDD (i ave 2 ) but thats not important right now. I just wanted to test the installation but after all the tedious waiting i get the GRUB error21. the system is old (its a pentium2 400MHz machine and the bios 1t cannot be updated and it will not detect the full HDD as 250GB (it cuts out at 127 or something) Debian does however recognize both HDD as 250GB. but installing it is another issue. I have got my heart set on this machine because it is free and it is whisper quiet. its a server not an actual pc. and bios updating is not an option (it is most recent from Compaq). So would a PCI IDE controller card solve this issue or what are my options?
THANKS

@Wolf-L-M, you should have started your own thread - and don't go resurrecting year and a half old threads.
Click the "Report" button on your post and ask for it to be made into a separate thread.

I'm surprised you get a 21. Try preallocating a 8 Gig partition and install into that. Once active you can allocate and mount the rest of the disk(s).
