grub.conf vs. menu.lst

Ok, can someone tell me do I use grub.conf or menu.lst?

And NO, I don't want to link one to the other. If you also know the history behind this I be very interested in why in the HE*L they changed it. It just adds to total confusion. Try reading some of the post, very interesting but no real answers.

So, if you have any good input I'm all eyes!

BTW: I'm guessing I should be using grub.conf. Right?

thanks.

man grub says the default is /boot/grub/menu.lst but you can specify a different config file when you install grub with the switch --config-file=FILE
specify stage2 config_file [default=/boot/grub/menu.lst]

menu.lst = old
grub.conf = new

either way one can happily be a symlink to the other as the internal syntax has not changed.

Distros from Red Hat default to grub.conf. Others, such as SuSE, default to the grub default of menu.lst. They're basically the same file with different names. For you, grub.conf is the file to use.
