Gravis xterminator gamepad (gameport version) under Mandrake 8.2

I have a gravis xterminator gamepad connected to my gameport on my Soundblaster 128PCI. I'm running Mandrake 8.2.

I can't for the life of me get the xterminator running.

I have done the modprobe stuff for joydev, gameport, adi, grip, etc.
Doing a modprobe for ns558 produces errors related to IRQs etc.

Does anyone know how to get this thing running???

I do not wish to recompile my kernel. I prefer modular joyport/joystick support.

Thanks in advance.
