Gentoo not loading... could it be grub?

Hi there....

A friend has tried an install of Gentoo, went through fine all the way and upon booting the system he has the error:

Quote:
kernel panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on 03:03
Are they correct in thinking that the 03 03 bit is the code for /dev/hda3, in the grub conf?

Can anyone help or give any possible fixes?

Thanks and regards
