I am beginning to have some issues in this newest installation that I suspect is due to memory managment issues. Although Gkrellm shows plenty of memory & swap left, I am getting things like the mouse curso freezing, and when I want to write a CD and it writes an ISO first, it gets slower & slower...finally stopping with the file not finished being written.

I can write ISOs OK...but I can't copy a CD.

I am confident that this is a memory issue, but as I've never chased down any memory problem in linux...I am not really sure where to start.

Can anyone give me some ideas?...

What makes you confident that it's a memory problem? Sounds more like a CD-Rom drive problem to me

I seriously doubt that you'll ever have problems in Linux related to memory management, aside from the possibility of not having enough. If you have more than about 64MB, then you shouldn't have much to worry about.

Try running 'top' while copying a CD, to see what is using up the CPU. Also, check the output of 'free' periodically (which is basically what GKrellm shows for available memory). If there's plenty of RAM available, then there's probably nothing wrong with memory; if, however, it's getting full and starting to do a lot of swapping, that could be the problem.
