Fedora Core 5 not booting

The other day I installed some things with Pirut and Yum, and now for some reason I can't boot into FC5. Instead of the splash screen, my screen is black and there's an "X" cursor, then after a few seconds, the screen blanks and comes back with a black screen and a busy cursor. I can move the mouse, and there doesn't seem to be any hard drive activity.

this has to be THE best site I've ever ran across, if you follow those directions or just copy and paste, you can't go wrong!

Thanks for the link, Doug. I haven't found a solution to my problem yet, but I think I might have mixed incompatible repositories: http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_cor...s.html#Warning
It doesn't seem like that would render my system unbootable.
