I know i'd usually go with NTFS but I don't like the hassle of the write protection so I want FAT32. However, I had this situation when converting a DVD to .AVI and received the FAT32 Filesytem file size error stating that:
FAT32 doesn't support creating files over 4GB. I was amazed at this error and I want to know if under linux converting a dvd to .avi will I get that error if I were to be doing it under the fat32. Or was this issue based on the software used? I used virtualdubMod and received that FAT32 4GB error. So I converted the partition to NTFS just to get over the issue.
If I were under linux and I were encoding a DVD to .avi would it be able to write that file to the FAT32 partition without any of those FAT32 size errors?
Because it happened when I was under windows. And I want to know if it will happen under fat32. Because you didn't say that linux can right anything at any size it wants to a fat32.
As I said,
you have to split files >4GB in fat32.
It is a limitation of addressing model used in fat32, not the software.
Meaning that: as long as the linux version of fat32 is going to be compatible with win-version,
addressing model cannot be changed.
So, by changing the software you can't circumvent the 4GB limitation.
ToniT, are you getting my messages on ICQ?
Ok I understand so I guess i'm not going to be going to for the FAT32 Happiness. I guess i'll just make it NTFS. And if I need to view transfer from ext to NTFS i'll just use ext2forxp, or vmware etc.
Thanx for the help Toni
