FAT32 filesystems get corrupted by Linux

Distros:
FC3 and Ubuntu 5.04 (wtf is up with those confusing alliterative animal names?)

Targets:
Any FAT32 filesystem -- on HDA and USB Flash drive

Symptoms:
Any directory I write to becomes corrupted. I need to go into Windoze and run scandisk to recover the files. Reads work just fine.

Steps Taken:
I've tried Googling the known universe with different searches for this problem, but all I find are unanswered questions from the LKML for 2.4.0's release or discussions on the various filesystem types, with comparisons. I've searched wiki after wiki.

I'm not an idiot. I've used Linux before, and used it on other machines. Helped others write their fstab's to mount and use FAT32 partitions, USB flash disks, and external hard drives. I seriously don't think it's a configuration issue. It's always Just Worked.

Thanks
