hi, i'm running redhat 8, with Gnome. Got grub as dualbooter. Only one user and the rootuser are registered
For some strange reason i tried to boot my pc this morning and neither my userpass or my root password worked. I've got no idea what i did last night in order to block myself out of my system. As the complete startup is in graphical mode i've got no commandline to use...
Anyone have some tips for me please; i cannot simply wipe everything off, that would be a disaster...
Distribution: tried a lot of 'em, now using kubuntu

When grub comes to a prompt, look on the screen, I think it says something to the effect of "Press F1 to enter command line arguments" (Whatever it says to do, do it). When you get to that prompt, enter "single root=/dev/hda??" (replace ?? with your root filesystem). There may also be an Fkey for help...
That should take you to a command line interface, so that you can correct your passwords or add a different user.
Or, at least I hope that will work. I keep going back and forth between lilo and grub, and sometimes get confused on what works on what system.
If it boots up with GRUB, select the linux entry, and type "e" to edit. Select the line that starts with "kernel", and type "e", again. At the end of the line, add a space and "single". Hit [enter] to get back to the main GRUB menu, and type "b" to boot.
Then, you can type "passwd" to change the root password, or "passwd [username] to change another user's password. Don't forget to change your Grub entry out of single user mode.
